Rules for Standley Lake Paddle Boarding
1. Paddling Permit
Before paddle boarding, get your permit through the Standley Lake Nature Center’s website. You just have to create an account, agree to the terms, and present the required documents (such as a Colorado driver’s license) during in-person verification. You will receive a sticker and membership card when the permit is granted.
Annual paddling permits are available for purchase online starting December 9, 2024, for the 2025 season. Lake access is permitted from May 1 to September 30.
2. ANS Protocols
Lake staff must spray and decontaminate all paddlecraft at the spray station near the main park entrance before each use to prevent the spread of Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS). This decontamination process is mandatory and conducted at the main park entrance located at 100th Avenue and Simms Street.

3. General Rules & Regulations
- Alcohol: Not allowed in the park
- Parking: Only allowed in designated areas
- Swimming/Wading: Prohibited for humans and dogs
- Pets are allowed but must be leashed and out of the water.
- Paddle Craft Safety:
- Coast Guard-approved PFDs required for all users
- Whistle/horn is required for all paddler
- Electric motors up to 75 lbs. thrust are allowed; however, gas, diesel, or jet engines are prohibited.
- Launching any kind of watercraft from a trailer is not allowed.
- State of Colorado registration is required for electric motor use
- The owner’s name and address must be displayed on non-motorized craft
- Prohibited Items/Activities: Glass bottles, scuba diving.
- Fishing: only at designated stations and the entrails must be properly disposed
- Park access may be closed by the Open Space Superintendent for public safety or protection.
4. Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife
You must have valid Colorado state licenses for fishing/hunting here. Adhere to bag limits and seasons, and properly dispose of fish remains.
