If you haven’t picked up on it by now, we’re all about night paddle boarding over here at iRocker. When you take the proper precautions and hit the water with a great group of friends, exploring the coastline is eerie and amazing all at once. Our absolute favorite thing to do is scout out some full moon fun on a SUP.
You’re likely out of the loop about the next full moon if you’re not into weather patterns or astrology. Luckily for you, we’ve done the painstaking research so you don’t have to. Sure, it took us about 30 seconds to Google, but still.
Here’s your go-to guide on summer 2019 full moons in your area and how to best take advantage of them on your iRocker.
Upcoming Full Moons in the United States
Slip into your swimsuit once the sun goes down on July 16, August 15 and September 14. Thanks to the summer heatwave, there’s a good chance it’s still toasty even at night.
Full moons make their appearance anytime between late evening-to-early morning. Keep your eyes peeled for the perfect time to hit the water that evening.
Lots of mystery and folklore surround the occurrence of a full moon. From unexplainable werewolf transformations to abundant childbearing hours, the moon has been a source of curiosity for ages. What do we believe? We think a full moon creates the perfect vibe for a night of SUPing.
Grab the Glow Sticks and Invite Your Group
A super fun (and ultra safe) addition to any night paddle boarding session is to deck your crew of friends in colorful glow sticks. It’s always smart to bring flashlights at night, even if the full moon perfectly lights the water. Glow sticks are just a simple way to make any party way more fun while brightening the water just a little bit more.
Tip: Consider a rechargeable strap-on headlight for maximum safety and an ultra-cool look.
Take it one step further with glow-in-the-dark swimsuits and board shorts, neon leashes and a full moon Spotify playlist. A full moon can either be creepy or cool, and colorful accessories are the perfect way to take the edge off of the evening.
Hit the Water for a Meditation Session
Ask any yogee or astrology-lover — there’s just nothing like reconnecting with yourself and Mother Nature under a bright full moon. iRocker boards are built with ultra-comfortable crocodile-textured traction pads, making them the perfect vehicle for some peaceful concentration.
Meditation might commonly be a solo situation, but you should never SUP at night by yourself. Pick a friend you can trust to soak in the silence and enjoy the tranquility of the full moon. We all love our chatty friends, but this may not be the gig for them.
Howl at the Moon with Your Four-Legged Friends
Stick to the shoreline with your pup while the full moon rises into the sky. Spend a little time with your best friend before you head into the water. Embrace the werewolf saga and quite literally howl at the moon with Fido. Crazy? Maybe. Fun? Totally!
Invite your friends along for this weird way to spend a full moon night. Have a couple drinks, enjoy the doggy playdate, then end the event with a calming group paddle sesh.
Tip: Enlist your strongest and most patient friend to doggy sit while the rest of you paddle board. (Hey, we’re here to help!)
Tap into Your Inner Romantic with a Full Moon Date Night
Trust us, you’ll score some major props if you plan an intimate evening on the water during a full moon. Your significant other will love the originality and the ominous experience of snuggling under the stars.
Fill your iRocker cooler deck bag with a carafe of wine and chocolate-covered strawberries for an over-the-top SUP date. The iRocker Big Blue is hands-down the best board for a duo. The last thing you want to worry about while spending time together is tipping into the water. (Actually, this could be a fun twist if you come prepared with a “rescue” plan.)
Soak in the Solace of Full Moon Fun on a SUP in the Summertime
If you’re fortunate enough to live near the water and have access to a stand up paddle board, then you’re fortunate enough. Our favorite way to shake up the traditional paddle boarding routine is to hit the water once the sun goes down. Head out to your local waterway on July 16, August 15 and September 14 for breathtaking SUP experiences you just won’t believe.
There are tons of rumors surrounding a full moon and it’s impossible to believe all of them. But there’s no denying that full moons change the way the world feels, if only for a few hours.
Whether you believe the legends or not, we’d hate for you to miss a rare opportunity to SUP under the brightest night sky.
Heading out with your friends on a full moon night? We’d love to hear about it! Share your pictures with us on Instagram or Facebook for a chance to be featured on our social media. Hey, crazier things have happened. (Exhibit A.)
